Ahmedabad: The city crime branch arrested two men on Sunday after allegedly recovering 76.03 grams of mephedrone, commonly known as MD, valued at Rs 2.3 lakh from their possession in the Danilimda area.According to an FIR, crime branch personnel received a tip-off around 9.30pm on Saturday that two individuals carrying narcotics were present near a dilapidated building beside a mosque in the Narol BRTS workshop area.The accused were identified as Mustaq Saiyed, 28, and Yasin Arafat Ansari, 44. During the operation, police allegedly recovered 54.3g of mephedrone from Ansari and 21.7g from Saiyed.The FIR states that a forensic science laboratory (FSL) officer conducted a preliminary test on the spot, which confirmed the substance to be mephedrone.Police also seized two mobile phones, Rs 3,000 in cash, a motorcycle, and 32 empty zip-lock pouches. The total value of the seized contraband and other items was estimated at Rs 2.9 lakh.During interrogation, the accused allegedly told investigators that they had purchased the drug from a man identified as Nafis Sheikh at the rate of Rs 8,500 for five grams and were selling it in smaller quantities.The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) registered a case against the duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched an investigation.
