Nagpur: Anti-Narcotics Squad of Police Crime Branch seized approximately 4 kg of ganja (cannabis) and arrested 2 individuals involved in drug peddling. On February 7, during routine patrolling in the Bilal Nagar, Wanjra Layout, and MHADA Quarter Slum areas under Yashodhara Nagar police limits, cops noticed a suspicious passenger travelling in an auto-rickshaw. Upon intercepting the vehicle, the individual was identified as Adil Sheikh Karim Sheikh (40), a resident of the locality. A search of the white bag in his possession, led to the recovery of 4 kg ganja. Authorities also seized a mobile phone and the auto-rickshaw involved, with the total estimated value of the contraband and items amounting to ₹3.13 lakhs. Subsequent interrogation of the accused revealed details of his supplier, leading to arrest of Sukhraj Singh alias Raja Randhawa Harvinder Singh (31). The accused reportedly admitted to procuring the ganja with assistance from a wanted individual, Atiq Rafiq Khan of Bhilgaon, for financial gain.
A case was registered against the accused under Sections 8(a), 20(b)(ii)(b), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Yashodhara Nagar police station. Both individuals are currently in police custody, and efforts are underway to apprehend the third involved person. The operation was carried out under the leadership of CP Ravinder Kumar Singal, as part of Nagpur police’s sustained efforts through ‘Operation Thunder’ to dismantle drug networks and promote a drug-free society in the city.
