Poonch, Aug 7: The Police Martyrs Memorial Volleyball Tournament, organised by District Police Poonch under the Civic Action Programme in collaboration with Shaheed Manjit Singh Memorial Club, Poonch, culminated today at Jallian, Mandi, with great enthusiasm and participation from local youth, sportspersons, and members of the community.
The closing ceremony was graced by SSP Poonch, Shafqat Hussain who visited the venue and interacted with the participating teams and players. His presence encouraged the young sportspersons and reflected the commitment of District Police Poonch towards promoting sports, youth engagement, and stronger police-public relations.
A total of 12 teams participated in the tournament, providing players with an opportunity to showcase their sporting talent, competitive spirit, discipline, and teamwork. The tournament also served as a befitting tribute to the brave Police Martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
During the closing ceremony, trophies and mementos were presented to the winning and participating teams and players in recognition of their performance, dedication, and participation. The players were appreciated for maintaining the spirit of healthy competition and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Addressing the gathering, SSP Poonch appreciated the efforts of the organisers, participating teams, local residents, veteran sportspersons, and Shaheed Manjit Singh Memorial Club for their cooperation in making the event a success. He emphasised the importance of sports in developing discipline, physical fitness, teamwork, leadership qualities, and a positive approach among youth.
SSP Poonch further highlighted that District Police Poonch remains committed to organising such youth-oriented initiatives under the Civic Action Programme to provide constructive avenues for young people and strengthen the bond between the police and the public. He encouraged youth to actively participate in sports and other positive activities and to remain away from drugs and other social evils.
The closing ceremony was attended by DySP Headquarters Poonch, DySP DAR Poonch, SHO Police Station Mandi, SHO Police Station Loran, besides senior citizens, veteran sportspersons, members of the local community, and a large number of sports enthusiasts.
The local community appreciated the initiative of District Police Poonch and Shaheed Manjit Singh Memorial Club, stating that such events provide a meaningful platform for young talent and contribute towards strengthening community participation and social harmony.
