Shivamogga: In a major effort to promote Hindu-Muslim harmony and prevent any untoward incidents during the upcoming Eid Milad and Ganesha festivals, Shivamogga police organised a route march and peace meeting in Shanti Nagar, Ragigudda, on Wednesday.Superintendent of police B Nikhil led the route march, with police personnel walking through the area’s main streets to reassure residents and foster a sense of security. The initiative is important because communal tensions have risen in the area following a clash last year.Prominent attendees included activist Nagarajanna, Noor Mosque president Bhashasaab Hunasaghatta, Shanti Nagar Civil Rights Forum president Syed Mujibulla, and former Shivamogga City Corporation member Dheeraraj Honnavile.Addressing the gathering, Nikhil stressed that everyone’s cooperation is essential for maintaining a peaceful society. He urged residents to live with mutual respect, celebrate festivals in harmony, ignore baseless rumours, and immediately report any suspicious activities to the police. He also emphasised that maintaining law and order is a shared responsibility of both citizens and law enforcement agencies.DSP Sanjeev Kumar called for collective efforts to build a drug-free society. He urged family members, community leaders, and citizens to create awareness among youth about the dangers of substance abuse.The meeting concluded with participants offering valuable suggestions and assuring full cooperation with the preventive measures undertaken by police. They also expressed confidence that the joint initiative would further strengthen communal harmony and social cohesion in Ragigudda.
