New Delhi: A decade after he allegedly murdered his 10-year-old daughter over suspicion that she was not biologically related to him, Delhi Police‘s crime branch has arrested a man from southeast Delhi’s Bhati Mines.In 2016, the accused, identified as Ramesh Kumar, a native of Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh, had allegedly assaulted his daughter by hitting her on the head with a stick while working as a construction labourer in Jammu. The girl was rushed to a hospital for treatment but later succumbed to her injuries.A case was registered under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of IPC at Gandhi Nagar police station. Kumar fled and remained on the run for nearly a decade, evading arrest by frequently changing locations and forging identity.“Intel was received from Jammu about the case, after which we received a tip-off that the accused had been living in Sanjay Colony under the name Rajveer,” said DCP (crime) Harsh Indora.The officer added that after manual surveillance and technical analysis of the suspected area, the accused was traced to Bhati Mines, where a team apprehended him. The Jammu and Kashmir Police was subsequently informed, following which Kumar was handed over to their custody and formally arrested in the case.
