Panaji: While Calangute police are yet to establish the motive behind the killing of Sandeep Salayam, a tourist from Malpe, Karnataka, whose body was found in a hotel room in Calangute last week, the main suspect was remanded in five days of police custody.The judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Mapusa, on Thursday granted five more days of police custody of Akshata MK, who was arrested from Bengaluru a day after the murder of Salayam.Police claimed Akshata allegedly drugged Salayam, leading to his death, before fleeing from the hotel after stealing his gold chain. Her counsel, however, told reporters that police were yet to substantiate their allegation with evidence. “As per their allegation, it was my client who has administered the drug, but till now they’ve not been able to name the drug,” he said.Calangute police sources were guarded in their comments to the media.Doctors at GMC who conducted the post-mortem reserved the cause of death, with the viscera chemical analysis report pending.
