Vasco: After seeking blessings at Shree Damodar temple, Vasco, around 200 devotees under Mormugao Warkari Saunstha started their 360km walking pilgrimage to Pandharpur from Headland-Sada on Friday.A dog named ‘Shwan Mauli’ also joined the devotees on foot. They are expected to reach Pandharpur on July 23 and will join the ‘Ashadhi Ekadashi’ celebration at the Shree Vithal Rakhumai temple in Pandharpur on July 25. The 16-day sacred journey will have 14 halts till devotees arrive in Pandharpur.Transport minister Mauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, and several dignitaries were present to see off the devotees.“I feel blessed to be a part of the sacred ‘wari’. Shwan Mauli joining the wari for the third consecutive year is like a legend that honours the bond between humanity, animals, and the divine,” said the transport minister.Godinho said “The journey (wari) is a revered tradition reflecting the values of faith, humility, discipline, and togetherness. It wasinspiring to witness the deep devotion and faith of the devotees.”Salkar said the spiritual journey reflects unwavering faith, devotion, and the centuries-old ‘wari’ tradition.
