Mumbai: A police constable was duped of Rs 12.5 lakh in a cyber fraud case when she allegedly clicked an APK link on Jan 18 this year.After clicking the link, the victim’s mobile phone was allegedly compromised, and her registered mobile number became inactive, preventing from receiving bank alerts.Initially the victim learnt that Rs 28,000 was siphoned off. Further investigations revealed that on Jan 20, loan of Rs 12.5 lakh was disbursed online into her account and immediately transferred via multiple transactions to an account linked to one “Uttam Patra” in a private bank.Police said that between Feb and April 2026, EMIs totalling Rs 78,590 were debited from the victim’s account. The complainant, posted at Vikhroli police station and serving in the force since 1997, has lodged an FIR and the cyber police is conducting a parallel probe into it.
