T’puram: The police have found no suspicious circumstances in the death of Neyyattinkara Gopan and have decided to close the case. The police will submit a final report before the court after receiving the internal organ examination report from a laboratory in Hyderabad.According to the police, there were no indications of an unnatural death. The probe concluded that Gopan had died and was subsequently placed in the tomb, in accordance with the account given by his family.Gopan’s death and subsequent burial had triggered a controversy after his wife and children claimed that he had attained samadhi. They had said that Gopan, who was suffering from several ailments and was reportedly bedridden, walked to a pre-arranged burial site, sat there and died. The family allegedly buried him without informing others.The tomb was later found to have been filled with ash. However, the postmortem examination found that the ash had not entered Gopan’s lungs.Following the controversy, police opened the tomb and exhumed the body for autopsy. The investigation subsequently focused on determining whether there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death or the burial.With the police now concluding that there was no evidence of an unnatural death, the case is set to be formally closed.
