Surat: Gujarat Gas has increased the price of domestic cooking gas supplied through piped natural gas (PNG) by Rs 1.19 per standard cubic metre (SCM), with the revised rate effective from September 3. The company informed consumers about the hike through SMS on Thursday. The domestic PNG price, which was earlier Rs 49.03 per SCM, has been revised to Rs 50.22 per SCM. After applicable taxes, consumers will pay Rs 53.22 per SCM.The increase is expected to push up monthly household gas bills, depending on individual consumption. Surat has a large base of PNG users, with more than seven lakh households having Gujarat Energy connections. As PNG is primarily used for cooking, the price increase is likely to add to monthly household expenses. Consumers will now pay Rs 1.19 more per SCM before taxes compared with the previous rate.
