Pune: A Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) e-bus carrying 50 passengers caught fire in Chakan MIDC on Thursday afternoon.The driver immediately stopped the bus after noticing smoke and evacuated the passengers with the bus conductor’s help. No one sustained injuries in the incident.

A PMPML official said, “The e-bus belonged to the Nigdi depot. As per preliminary information, a short circuit in the compressor wire led to the fire. Further investigations are on.”The official said the bus was operating especially for workers in the MIDC. On Thursday morning, the bus was on its way to Mahalunge MIDC from Nigdi. The driver noticed smoke towards the front of the bus as it reached Chakan MIDC. He drove to the side of the road and evacuated all the passengers. “The vehicle caught fire within minutes and was completely damaged,” he added.
