Pune: The PMC has urged citizens to participate in resolving civic issues in their vicinity by submitting suggestions for the ‘participatory budget’ over the next few weeks.“Detailed specifications must be provided for all requested works (location, description, and nature of work). Attach photos or sketches if necessary. Requests should be made only for works that are necessary within the ward and not for citywide requirements,” said Ulka Kalaskar, head of PMC’s accounts department.Citizens can submit their suggestions to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) until Aug 31 via the online portal https://pbpune.pmc.gov.in. The maximum expenditure limit for a single work is up to Rs5 lakh.The consolidated report of suggestions must reach municipal commissioner’s office via assistant commissioners by Oct 9 this year, officials said. The civic accounts and finance department will subsequently incorporate these proposals into the budget through the PMC chief.For a four-member ward, works up to a maximum limit of Rs1 crore can be suggested in total, whereas for a five-member ward, works up to a maximum of Rs1.25 crore can be proposed.Only select types of work will be permitted, including roads (resurfacing only), footpaths, drains, bus shelters (in consultation with PMPML), buildings (repairs only), public toilets, streetlights (road and traffic management lights), electrical works, and slum rehabilitation/improvement (repairs only).Works such as foot over bridges, new speed breakers, and construction on private land not owned by the PMC cannot be included. Suggestions falling outside the budgetary framework that do not require financial allocation — such as staff recruitment, manpower supply, minor repairs, and sanitation — should be avoided, civic officials said.
