Pune: The PMC is working on a plan to construct a bridge parallel to the Rajaram Bridge to address traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road.It is in the process of appointing a consulting firm to finalise the technical design and assess the feasibility of the proposal.The existing Rajaram Bridge serves as a vital two-way link between Sinhagad Road and Karvenagar DP Road. According to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials, the upcoming feasibility report will provide clarity on the project’s estimated cost and structural design. Preliminary plans suggest that the new wing will likely be constructed on the Swargate-facing side of the current bridge.This proposal follows several smaller interventions by the civic administration. Recently, the PMC carried out expansion works at both ends of the bridge — on Sinhagad Road and Karvenagar DP Road — to facilitate easier vehicle turns. Additionally, structural strengthening was completed on the existing bridge a few months ago.Vishal Kulkarni, a resident of Hingne, said while two new flyovers on Sinhagad Road have improved traffic flow over the last two years, certain bottlenecks remained. “Rajaram Bridge is a major friction point. The administration needs to focus on improving entry and exit points at both ends to ensure a smooth flow,” Kulkarni said.Commuter Samir Jagatap added that the lack of alternative routes currently forces most vehicles travelling between Sinhagad Road and Karvenagar to use the Rajaram Bridge.
