Prayagraj: Prayagraj Municipal Corporation has moved quickly to implement chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s announcement to rename Kasari-Masari as ‘Shri Krishnapuri’, preparing the proposal within a day of the declaration and sending it to mayor Ganesh Kesarwani on Friday. The mayor is expected to forward it to the state govt after the proposal is considered by the PMC House.Yogi had announced the proposed renaming during his Prayagraj visit on Thursday while performing the bhoomi pujan of Padamlok residential colony, being developed by Prayagraj Development Authority on land freed from mafia Atiq Ahmed’s control in Kasari-Masari.Govt land reclaimed from the mafia in Kasari-Masari will now make way for homes for the poor. Once under the illegal control of Atiq and his henchmen, who had built a stable and turned the site into a den of debauchery, the land was freed after the govt demolished the illicit structures. It will now be used to provide housing to underprivileged families, turning the reclamation drive into an initiative for the poor. The plan involves providing housing to 602 families in the first phase and 598 families in the second phase, ensuring that approximately 1,200 families will receive permanent homes. The civic body is now working on a separate proposal to rename Teliyarganj crossing as Mahashay Masuriyadin Chauraha. Municipal officials will hold discussions with the mayor before finalising the proposal. The civic body is also preparing to convene a municipal House meeting after Dussehra, where both proposals are expected to be placed for consideration. The mayor and officials are making efforts to get the proposals passed unanimously.Municipal commissioner Seelam Sai Teja said the proposal to rename Kasari-Masari as Shri Krishna Puri had been sent to the mayor and that the decision would follow its passage by the House. Work on the Teliyarganj crossing proposal is still underway.Kesarwani said the House meeting would be convened after Dussehra and both renaming proposals would be placed before the members. He said efforts would be made to secure consensus on the changes. The proposed renaming of Teliyarganj crossing is part of a broader plan to commemorate former MP Mahashay Masuriyadin. During his address at an NIIPT public meeting, the chief minister had also announced that an institution would be named after Masuriyadin and his statue installed there.
