Jaipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for Phase II of the Jaipur Metro Saturday, kickstarting a five-year construction project expected to transform connectivity along Tonk Road and adjoining areas.Metro officials said the project has been divided into seven packages — four for civil construction and three for electrical and other system works. Tenders for all four civil packages have been floated, with one already awarded. The remaining three are expected to be finalised over the next few months, while work on all four civil packages is scheduled to begin simultaneously in Sept. The first package, estimated at Rs 918 crore, covers a 12km elevated corridor from Prahladpura in Sitapura to Pinjrapole Gaushala with 12 stations. The second package, worth Rs 1,160 crore, comprises a 3.12km underground stretch with two stations — near Sanganer Police Station and inside the Jaipur airport premises. The third package, costing Rs 1,392 crore, includes an 11.7km elevated corridor from the B2B Bypass Cloverleaf Junction to Khasa Kothi with 12 stations. The fourth package, valued at Rs 1,331 crore, extends 14.5km from Khasa Kothi to Todi Mod and will have 12 stations. To minimise disruption during construction, the traffic police have prepared a plan to develop the Sitapura-Ajmeri Gate stretch of Tonk Road as a ‘Model Corridor’. The immediate focus will be on removing encroachments and illegal parking from both sides of the road and adjoining footpaths to maximise the available carriageway.Additional surveillance cameras have been installed and enforcement has stepped up to curb traffic violations. Officials said traffic diversions will be introduced only when necessary and in coordination with the Jaipur Metro authorities.Traffic DCP Yogesh Goyal said decisions on lane closures and route diversions will be taken jointly with metro officials as construction progresses. Senior officials from the traffic police and Jaipur Metro will also hold weekly review meetings every Monday to address bottlenecks and ensure smooth traffic management.FOR GPHXMETRO PHASE 2 AT A GLANCEThe entire corridor will be served by driverless metro servicesTonk Road to get metro connectivity for the first timeCorridor to connect key landmarks, including Jaipur airport, Gandhinagar railway station, Jaipur Junction railway station, SMS Hospital, Collectorate and Sikar RoadPassengers can switch between the two metro corridors through a pedestrian bridge at the Khasha Kothi and Sindhi Camp metro stationsA spur line from Govt Hostel Chouraha to Chandpole Gate via Sansar Chandra Road will provide direct connectivity between the two corridors
