Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled infrastructure projects worth over Rs. 4,400 crore in poll-bound Tamil Nadu‘s Madurai, aimed at enhancing connectivity, improving mobility and accelerating regional economic development.

PM Modi inaugurated eight redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which include Morappur, Bommidi, Srivilliputtur, Sholavandan, Manaparai, Pollachi Junction, Karaikkudi Junction, Thiruvarur Junction in Tamil Nadu.

“Over the past 12 years, the government has made huge investments in Tamil Nadu’s highway network. Thousands of kilometres of highways have been built here since 2014,” he said while addressing the event.

Speaking on the development of railway in the state, he said that nine Vande Bharat trains and nine Amrit Bharat trains are benefiting people of the state. Coaches of such trains being manufactured at ICF at Chennai, he said.

“In this budget, we have proposed Bangalore-Chennai and Chennai-Hyderabad bullet train corridors. They will revolutionise the economy of this whole region. The budget positions Tamil Nadu as part of the rare corridors that will promote advanced manufacturing, research and technology development…” he added.
He laid the foundation stone for four-laning of Marakkanam–Puducherry Section of NH-332A and the Paramakudi–Ramanathapuram Section of NH-87.
He also inaugurated key rail infrastructure projects to enhance passenger convenience, improve operational efficiency and strengthen rail-based connectivity in Tamil Nadu.
The Amrit Bharat Stations have been upgraded with modern passenger-centric amenities while incorporating local architectural elements and cultural aesthetics, including improved accessibility, enhanced station buildings, modern waiting halls, lifts and escalators, upgraded platforms and Divyangjan-friendly facilities.

“Tamil Nadu has rich history, historic sites such as Adichanallur will be developed into global heritage destination,” the prime minister said.

He also dedicated to the nation the Chennai Beach-Chennai Egmore 4th Line to significantly enhance operational efficiency in the Chennai suburban rail network by facilitating additional passenger and freight train services and benefiting lakhs of daily commuters including office-goers, IT professionals, students and traders.

He also inaugurated three new Akashvani FM relay transmitters at Kumbakonam, Yercaud and Vellore to expand regional coverage, ensure uninterrupted FM broadcasting and enhance access to public broadcasting services across multiple districts of the State.
