Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday positioned the West Bengal assembly elections as pivotal to the future of eastern India, asserting that a strong Bengal, alongside Bihar and Odisha, is essential for India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.

Addressing a rally in Barrackpore, Modi invoked the historical concept of “Anga, Banga and Kalinga” — referring to Bihar, Bengal and Odisha — as the three pillars of a prosperous India, and said their renewed strength would be key to driving national growth. “This election in West Bengal will change the destiny of Bengal as well as eastern India,” he said.

Emphasising the strategic importance of the region, the Prime Minister said the growth of eastern India is central to the country’s overall progress, while accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of lacking a clear vision for Bengal’s development.

Highlighting the BJP’s ideological commitments, Modi said the party fulfilled one of Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s key resolutions by abrogating Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He added that a BJP government in West Bengal would work towards realising Mookerjee’s vision of a prosperous state and address long-pending issues such as that of refugees.

Stepping up his attack on the TMC, Modi said the party had drifted away from its founding ideals. “One thing bothers me a lot that TMC leaders didn’t even speak of ‘Maa, maati, and manush’, even once. TMC has forgotten the slogan with which they came to power,” he said.
The Prime Minister also struck a personal and emotional chord, describing his recent roadshows in Bengal as spiritual experiences rather than political events. “These road shows were not a political event for me. They were like ‘Teerth Yatra’,” he said, adding that his visits to temples and connection with the state had infused him with energy during the campaign. Also Read: “Give us your vote, and we will free you from TMC”: PM Modi ahead of West Bengal phase 2 polls

Drawing parallels with his spiritual preparations during the Ram temple consecration in Ayodhya, Modi said he felt a similar sense of devotion during the Bengal campaign. “Behind this is my attachment to Bengal,” he said.

Framing the election as a decisive moment, Modi reiterated that the outcome would shape not just the state but the entire eastern region. “My destiny and responsibility are to serve, secure and save Bengal,” he said.
