Times News NetworkKanpur: Continuing their weekly environmental drive, members of Kanpur Ploggers carried out a cleanliness and plantation campaign at the Lakhanpur Green Belt on Sunday. The volunteers removed nearly 50 kilograms of non-bio-degradable waste from the area before planting around 100 saplings to enhance the city’s green cover.The campaign began with a plogging exercise in which volunteers collected plastic and other non-bio-degradable waste scattered across the green belt. After clearing the site, the team planted about 100 saplings with the objective of improving the environment and promoting urban greenery.Kanpur Ploggers convener Sanjivini Sharma said the Kanpur Municipal Corporation extended support to the campaign by providing a team and a vehicle to transport the collected waste to the designated disposal unit.She appreciated the civic body’s cooperation, saying it helped ensure the proper disposal of the waste collected during the drive.Sharma appealed to the residents to take responsibility for keeping the green belt clean and free from litter. She also urged the municipal commissioner to get repaired the damaged fencing around the plantation area to protect the newly planted saplings from stray cattle.According to her, proper fencing is essential for the survival of the plants and for maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of the green belt.She further expressed gratitude to individuals and well-wishers who contributed donations for purchasing the saplings used during the plantation drive.The weekly initiative by Kanpur Ploggers is aimed at promoting environmental conservation through plogging, waste management, and tree plantation while encouraging greater public participation in keeping the city’s public spaces clean and green.
