Lucknow: Delivering laughter with a sharp social edge, ‘Adaab Arz Hai’ left the audience with a timely message about society’s obsession with titles and appearances. The play, staged at International Buddhist Research Institute on Sunday, was presented by Akansha Theatre Arts in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy. The comic production brought classic farce to the stage. It revolves around Jumman, a carefree drunkard whose fate takes a dramatic turn when he is mistakenly believed to be a doctor. In the process, he helps a woman reunite with her love.

In a highly humorous yet thought-provoking manner, the play also highlighted another important theme—how fathers sometimes force daughters into marriages against their wishes. Actor Zara Hayat, who portrayed the character of Fatima, shared her excitement, saying, “Every performance of ours is driven by the simple aim of spreading happiness and leaving viewers smiling.” Meanwhile, lead actor Tushar Bajpayee, who played Jumman, received strong applause and appreciation from the audience for his energetic performance and commendable comic timing. The event was graced by Padma Shri Dr Anil Rastogi as the chief guest, who encouraged young aspirants to participate in theatre workshops.
