T’puram: Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan has come out against Union home minister Amit Shah’s statement that there was an unnatural demographic change in the border states and that the reason for the same was infiltration. Vijayan said such a statement was intended to spread hatred in society. He was referring to a statemement made by Shah at the conference of SPs of border districts recently.“ The meeting was convened in the wake of the central govt forming a demography mission. Such moves are part of the Sangh Parivar’s planned efforts to divide and alienate the people of border regions such as Assam, Bengal and Bihar,” Vijayan alleged in a social media post.Through this mission the central government is trying to establish that there is unnatural demography change in the border states and thus justify the imposition of authoritarian laws such as the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens.“It is clear that the Sangh Parivar’s interests lie behind the deliberate creation of a false fear of infiltration. By raising the argument that the population ratio in the border districts is changing, a precise planning to keep a particular section of people under suspicion is being carried out behind the scenes. The very objective of CAA — sidelining Muslim minorities — is the one that home ministry aims at through the demography change mission,’’ Vijayan said, adding that secular society should come forward unitedly against such moves that sow the seeds of division in the country.
