Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is scheduled to present its 2026–27 annual budget before the standing committee on Saturday. On the same day, the standing committee will elect its chairperson, after which the newly formed panel will review and approve the budget in its first meeting.The civic body, since 2022, had been functioning under administrative rule, with the municipal commissioner acting as administrator and presenting and sanctioning the budget for the last four financial years. This time, however, the newly elected corporators will clear the budget. They will face a significant challenge due to the corporation’s strained financial position.

According to official data, PCMC has an outstanding debt of Rs 337 crore, including a World Bank loan and funds raised through green bonds. During its election campaign, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) criticised the administration, alleging that the corporation’s finances worsened under administrative control. The official also said there will be no tax increase in the coming financial year. Mayor Ravi Landge had instructed officials to prioritise funding for ongoing projects instead of launching new ones, citing financial constraints.
