Berhampur: Several areas of Phulbani, the district headquarters town of Kandhamal, got inundated as heavy rain battered the tribal dominated district in the past 24 hours. At 276 mm, Khajuripada recorded the highest rainfall in the state till 8am on Sunday, followed by Phulbani (224.4 mm).Waterlogging was reported in several residential areas, while Dakapala Sahi remained cut off as water was flowing over the bridge connecting the street. Phulbani municipality has imposed restrictions on movement over the bridge at Dakapala, while at least five pumps have been pressed into service to remove water from the area.“As water was flowing at a high speed, we have restricted the movement of people crossing the bridge. This measure was taken for the safety of people,” said Samaresh Mohanty, executive officer, Phulbani municipality.
