Ghaziabad: An FIR for abetment to suicide was registered against a PhD scholar’s girlfriend and a mutual friend, days after the 24-year-old Delhi University student allegedly died by suicide in Siddharth Vihar. Police said the family told them he used to speak to the two women for hours on the phone.The Jodhpur resident, pursuing a PhD at DU’s Deshbandhu College, allegedly fell from the 27th floor of a high-rise on Aug 25. He was staying with relatives at a third-floor flat in Prateek Grand since Aug 18.ACP (Kotwali) Upasana Pandey said the scholar’s uncle, Pramendra Kumar, approached police and submitted a suicide note written by the student. An FIR was then registered at Vijay Nagar police station against his girlfriend and a mutual friend under BNS section relating to abetment of suicide.“A few days ago, the uncle came with a note and submitted it at Vijay Nagar police station. The note stated, ‘main mar raha hu apni marzi se, kisi ka name nahi lunga’ (I am ending my life by my own choice; I will not take anyone’s name),” Pandey said.She added that the family told police the scholar would speak to both women for hours. “We have applied for call details of the victim and are investigating the matter,” she said.A senior police officer said the scholar’s phone had been recovered and sent for forensic examination. The family also told police that on the day of his death, he spoke on the phone for several hours and stepped outside the flat while talking to someone.Vijay Nagar SHO Dharam Pal Singh said police were examining CCTV footage provided by the society. Footage showed the scholar walking towards the stairs on the third floor around 7pm before taking a lift to the 27th floor. “His body was recovered a short while later,” the SHO said.
