Petrol, diesel retail sale curbs for commercial users lifted

NEW DELHI: Rolling back yet another emergency measure introduced to ensure equitable distribution of fuel during West Asia conflict, govt Monday decided to lift restrictions on sale of petrol and diesel to commercial users from retail pumps from July 1. The temporary restrictions on the sale and distribution of petrol and diesel to commercial users, such as transport operators and industrial units, were imposed under the Motor Spirit and High Speed Diesel (Temporary Regulation of Supply through Retail Outlets) Order, 2026, on June 12. The June 12 order was issued days before US and Iran reached an understanding that paved the way for reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. “…central govt, on review of the prevailing supply situation of petroleum products, is satisfied that it is no longer necessary… to continue with the directions… in the said order,” the petroleum ministry said in its order Monday.
