Petrol demand registered a growth of 6.8% in Telangana in April 2026

Hyderabad: The latest industry consumption review released by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) shows that Telangana’s petroleum consumption patterns continue to be dominated by diesel, while petrol demand remains strong due to rising personal mobility and vehicle ownership.Petrol demand, meanwhile, registered a stronger growth of 6.8% in Telangana in April 2026 compared to the corresponding period last year. The report attributed the rise to higher passenger vehicle and two-wheeler sales, marriage-season travel and expanding private mobility. In the same period, petrol consumption grew by 3.5% — same as the national average. The country recorded a 12.2% growth in passenger vehicle sales and a 13% increase in two-wheeler sales during April, trends that are especially visible in urbanised states such as Telangana where private vehicle ownership has expanded rapidly over the past decade.LPG consumption, however, witnessed a sharp contraction nationally. In Telangana, the LPG consumption came down by 4% between April 2023 and April 2026.PPAC observed that road freight movement, mining and urban development projects remained key drivers of diesel demand across India. E-way bill generation, which reflects transport activity, rose 12% year-on-year during April 2026, indicating sustained logistics movement.Industry observers note that Telangana’s fuel consumption profile closely mirrors these national trends because of strong dependence on road-based transport, increasing commuter traffic and expanding e-commerce and logistics operations. Hyderabad’s growing metropolitan region has also contributed to sustained petrol demand through higher passenger vehicle and two-wheeler ownership.
