Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday urged people to “unite and fight” against what he termed the “injustice” of E20 petrol, claiming motorists across the country were facing problems because of the fuel blend.Backing a campaign launched by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Mann appealed to people to sign an online petition at stopE20petrol.com, saying it would help take consumers’ concerns to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.In a video message, Mann said people should have the freedom to choose between pure petrol and E20 petrol, and demanded that E20 be sold at a lower price. “Every single signature is important to ensure that the people’s voice reaches the Centre,” he said.Claiming E20 petrol was damaging vehicles and reducing fuel efficiency, Mann alleged the BJP-led Centre had ignored growing public concern. He said vehicle owners feared damage to engines despite purchasing vehicles with their “hard-earned money”.Referring to Kejriwal’s recent visit to a vehicle repair garage, Mann said the AAP chief had witnessed “long queues of damaged vehicles” before writing to the Prime Minister seeking immediate intervention.Mann alleged that selling E20 and conventional petrol at the same price benefited oil companies while placing an unfair financial burden on consumers.
