Nagpur: Commissioner of police Vishwas Nangre Patil has launched a new initiative under which common citizens can approach police stations and senior officers daily between 3pm and 5pm to share their problems and get quick help. The order was implemented from Wednesday, said a police source. The move is aimed at fast resolution of people’s grievances, increasing public trust and strengthening the bond between citizens and police. This step is especially helpful for women, senior citizens and weaker sections of society who often hesitate to approach police stations. “We are bringing the police closer to the people. No complaint is too small,” a senior officer quoted the CP.The CP issued strict orders to police stations’ incharges, assistant commissioners, deputy commissioners, additional commissioners and officers of PI rank and above. They must sit in their offices during these 2 hours and meet complainants. Even the CP and Jt CP will be available at the CP office at Police Bhavan.Every police station and office will maintain a ‘Visitor Register’ to keep proper records, said an official. “It will note the visitor’s name, mobile number, complaint details and action taken by the officer,” said the source. At the end of every month, the number of visitors and complaints handled will be sent to the commissioner’s office. “Big display boards will be put up outside all police stations showing meeting timings, addresses and contact numbers of senior officers,” an official stated.Senior officers will hold surprise visits to check visitor registers and even call citizens randomly to verify. Officers with good performance will get positive remarks in their Annual Confidential Reports, sources said.
