Mumbai: Metropolis Healthcare Limited hosted a multi-specialty Scientific Symposium on Genomics in Mumbai, bringing together over 300 clinicians, researchers and academicians to accelerate the integration of genomic diagnostics into mainstream clinical practice across India.

The event also marked the formal unveiling of the company’s Centre of Genomics to the clinician community, as part of its broader clinical engagement initiative aimed at embedding advanced molecular diagnostics into routine medical workflows.

With precision medicine gaining momentum globally and in India, discussions at the symposium focused on transitioning from episodic diagnostic testing to integrated, molecular-driven care pathways that enable earlier diagnosis, accurate risk stratification and personalised treatment in oncology, neurology, and women and child health.

In oncology, experts deliberated on tumour profiling, biomarker-driven therapies and the expanding role of next-generation sequencing in guiding targeted cancer care. Sessions on neurogenomics examined inherited and rare neurological disorders, including genetic epilepsies and neuromuscular conditions, highlighting the role of genomic testing in reducing diagnostic delays and enabling personalised management strategies.

In women and child health, specialists discussed reproductive genomics, prenatal diagnostics and genetic counselling, underlining how early molecular insights can improve pregnancy outcomes and paediatric care.

Promoter and Executive Chairperson Ameera Shah said the next phase of healthcare would be defined by how effectively genomic intelligence is embedded into clinical workflows at scale.

“The opportunity ahead lies in creating connected ecosystems where diagnostics, data science and clinical expertise work seamlessly together. At Metropolis, we are focused on integrating molecular intelligence into everyday decision-making so that precision medicine becomes the standard of care, not the exception,” she said.

The symposium featured participation from leading national and international experts, including Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr Suresh Advani, senior consultant in medical oncology at Jaslok Hospital; Dr Aniruddha Deshpande of Sanford Burnham Prebys, California; Prof Stefan Bohlander from the University of Auckland, New Zealand; and senior clinicians from institutions such as Sir H.N. Reliance Hospital, Apollo Hospital, P.D. Hinduja Hospital, Nair Hospital, SRCC Children’s Hospital and Ruby Hall Clinic, among others.
