Patna: Train services on the Patna-Gaya section of Danapur division under East Central Railway remained affected for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday as the water level of the Punpun river showed no signs of receding. Railways cancelled 10 MEMU passenger trains and diverted an equal number of trains through alternative routes to ensure safe operations.Danapur senior divisional commercial manager Abhinav Siddarth said the swollen Punpun continued to threaten railway infrastructure with its water level reaching the height of the rail bridge girder between Punpun and Parsa Bazar stations. Normal train movement on the affected route was restricted as a safety measure.The Bihar Daily Passengers’ Association said the disruption had caused severe inconvenience to daily commuters between Patna and Gaya. The impact could increase with the Pitripaksh Mela scheduled to begin soon in Gaya, when thousands of pilgrims are expected to travel to the city.Siddarth said the bridge site was being monitored continuously with a war room activated at the Danapur division control office. Safety officials were monitoring water levels and track conditions round the clock, while surveillance teams had been deployed at the site.Passengers have been advised to check train status before travelling as further changes may be made depending on the river’s water level and safety conditions.
