Prayagraj: A 52-year-old patient from Chitrakoot, who had been suffering from severe pain and difficulty walking for five months, began walking upright on the second day after undergoing a complex spine surgery at Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj. The patient, Mannu Lal, had been experiencing a condition in which his upper body tilted towards the right while walking. Following initial investigations, the orthopaedics department team decided to perform Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF) surgery to relieve pressure on the nerves and stabilise the affected portion of the spine.Assistant professor in the orthopaedics department, Dr Anand Kumar, said the technique helps reduce nerve compression and provides stability to the affected spinal segment. He described the patient’s ability to walk upright on the second day after surgery as encouraging.According to media in charge SRNH, Dr Santosh Singh, the surgical team comprised Dr Anand Kumar, senior resident Ashutosh and junior resident Mehul. The anaesthesia team included assistant professor Dr Anil Singh and junior residents Vipin and Swati. Operation theatre in charges Anupam Singh and Vinod also assisted during the procedure. In TLIF surgery, screws and rods are used to stabilise the affected spinal segment, helping improve mobility and relieve symptoms caused by nerve compression.MLN Medical College principal Dr A K Verma said the successful procedure reflected coordination among the orthopaedics and anaesthesia departments and operation theatre staff.
