Kanpur: A patient was killed and four others seriously injured after an ambulance was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction at Saimri village on Banda-Fatehpur highway in Tindwari police station area around midnight on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Usha (58).Police said the accident took place when a truck coming from Fatehpur side collided with the ambulance. The injured were first admitted to Tindwari primary health centre(PHC) and later shifted to the district hospital.Dhammu, a resident of Bagehta village in Baberu police station area, said his mother Usha (58) was suffering from stomach pain and swelling. His father Shankar Kotary and brother Ghanshyam took her to the district hospital on Sunday night, where doctors referred her to Kanpur. The family was taking her to Kanpur in a 108 ambulance, when the accident took place. Police rushed all of them to Tindwari PHC, where doctors declared Usha dead. Her husband Shankar Kotary (62), son Ghanshyam (38), and ambulance driver Deepak, a resident of Malpura Lalganj, were seriously injured. Doctors later referred the injured to the district hospital.The accident caused a traffic jam on Banda-Fatehpur highway for about three hours. Later, police restored traffic by removing the vehicles. Tindwari police station in-charge Sandeep Singh said, “We have registered a case and investigations are underway.” tnn
