T’puram: A 52-year-old man collapsed and died after being allegedly made to stand in a queue at Neyyattinkara general hospital, despite seeking medical attention for his chest pain. The deceased, identified as Rajesh Kumar was allegedly forced to wait in the queue.The incident sparked a tense situation in the hospital as the public accused hospital authorities of denying emergency medical treatment to Kumar. According to his family, the hospital authorities ignored their repeated pleas for immediate medical intervention. He reportedly waited for nearly 30 minutes before collapsing on the hospital verandah. Though he was soon provided medical help, his life could not be saved.The grieving relatives staged a protest and engaged in a heated argument with hospital staff. They said they would not accept the body until a proper inquiry is initiated.Neyyattinkara DSP Sunil Kumar said a complaint has been received, and a detailed investigation will be launched.Meanwhile, hospital superintendent Dr Joy John said the matter is being examined and that an inquiry will determine whether there was any negligence.Meanwhile, health minister K Muraleedharan sought an urgent report from the district medical officer regarding the incident. He directed officials to ascertain whether the patient was made to wait despite being in a critical condition and said strict action would be taken against those responsible if any lapse is found.
