T’puram: Passengers are irked that many buses are not coming into the bay at Ayurveda College bus stop located on East Fort-Statue direction of MG Road in the city. Many of the buses stop on the other side of the median, pick up passengers and leave. This forces people to hop across the bus bay to reach the buses, putting themselves at risk. Though the bus bay has been built on the space off the carriageway of the main road, the bus shelters have been installed in such a way that more than two buses cannot stop one after the other. This leads to queueing up of the buses. When buses queue up in the bay, drivers of buses at the tail end will drive up on the main road and park parallel to the bay alongside the median. This makes it difficult for people to board.Since the bus stops are unscientifically located in the bay, people are forced to scurry after buses when they arrive. “It is becoming difficult to board when buses arrive. It is often difficult to spot the bus I want to board. Authorities should ensure that all buses enter the bus bay,” said P Rajalakshmi, a commuter. KSRTC is also not regulating its buses during peak hours, while private buses go unmonitored. Pradeep P, a commuter, said that either the KSRTC or the traffic police should post a staff member to regulate the buses.“We are not able to enter the bay when there are buses bunching. There is no space to queue up because it will create a traffic block. This is the reason some of the buses stop by the side of the median,” said crew of a KSRTC bus.
