Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary M V Govindan on Thursday said internal discord in Congress-led UDF over candidate selection has rendered the party incompetent to beat LDF in the ensuing assembly election.Referring to the crisis in Congress over K Sudhakaran’s demand for Kannur seat, Govindan said Congress delayed the announcement of candidates in the hope that they could finally manage Sudhakaran. “But what we hear now indicates that Sudhakaran is not budging. UDF and Congress are thus facing a coup,” Govindan said. The opposition’s early confidence has now withered away. “Their initial hope to put up a strong fight against LDF, especially in the wake of the upper hand they got in LSGD election, has now been shattered. But the crisis they face in the candidate selection process must have made them realise that their problems lie within their own camp,” Govindan said. He claimed that LDF was witnessing growing public acceptance, positioning itself strongly for a third consecutive term. LDF would be able to achieve significant political gains and further strengthen its position among the people, Govindan claimed. According to Govindan, internal issues in Congress would fuel LDF’s march to a third straight victory. “It is not for CM or the ministers that LDF should win. It is for the people that LDF should win so that development trajectory set by left govts would remain intact,” he said.
