A bandh called on Sunday demanding tertiary treatment of the HN Valley water received partial response across Chikkaballapur district. Most business establishments remained shut, while KSRTC buses operated, though in fewer numbers. Autorickshaws and private buses stayed off the roads. The bandh was called by a joint action committee comprising several local organisations. Protesters took out a procession from Sidlagatta Circle to the municipal grounds, where a public meeting was held.Speaking at the gathering, BJP functionary A Sandeep Reddy said several experts had pointed out that the water supplied to Chikkaballapur, though treated twice before being released into local waterbodies, still contained chemicals. He alleged that the govt has not taken the concerns seriously.
