Chandigarh: Leader of the opposition Partap Singh Bajwa has written to Punjab assembly speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, urging him to allocate adequate time during the upcoming session starting Aug 3 for a detailed debate on key state issues. Asserting that the vidhan sabha must serve as an effective forum for accountability, Bajwa requested that the proposed “Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Bill” be shared with legislators two to three days in advance, accompanied by a dedicated multi-day debate for clause-by-clause scrutiny.Citing a sharp decline in law and order, Bajwa demanded dedicated discussions on gangster extortion, the controversial Lawrence Bishnoi interview, alleged police excesses against protesting workers and the handling of the Bargari sacrilege and related firing cases. He also called on the govt to present a “white paper” on Punjab’s mounting debt, address pending employee dues and the old pension scheme, and clarify PSPCL’s plan to raise Rs 10,000 crore through bonds. Bajwa also urged the House to tackle excessive advertisement spending, the agrarian crisis, vacant teaching posts and alleged recruitment irregularities for 454 pharmacist officer positions.
