Daltonganj: Palamu district administration has stepped up vigil to prevent celebratory, intimidatory and flamboyant exhibitions of licensed firearms across the district while the model code of conduct (MCC) is in effect for the upcoming civic body elections. There are 1,182 licensed arms across the district.In Palamu, polling will take place on Feb 23 across Medininagar Municipal Corporation, Bishrampur Nagar Parishad, and nagar panchayats in Chhaterpur, Harihurganj and Hussainabad.

As per the official records, Medininagar has 601 licensed arms holders while Bishrampur has 68. There are 43 licensed firearms holders in Chhaterpur, 37 in Harihurganj and 118 in Hussainabad. All the arms license holders fall under the respective police station limits.Palamu SP Reeshma Ramesan said, “Police are keeping a close watch on all arms license holders. We will review each case to take appropriate steps as per the need in the wake of elections.”As per the norms, everyone must submit arms at respective police stations during the elections. If anyone thinks, it is imperative for them to keep it, they can file a review petition before the screening committee.
