Mangaluru: A coordination meeting between the divisional railway managers (DRMs) of Palakkad and Mysuru divisions, along with senior branch officers from both divisions, was held here on Friday, regarding the upcoming transfer of the Mangaluru area from Palakkad division of Southern Railway (SR) to Mysuru division of South Western Railway (SWR).The meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, with detailed discussions on various aspects of the transition, and the arrangements required for ensuring a smooth changeover. The jurisdictional changes are scheduled to come into force with effect from Oct 1 as notified by the Railway Board.Both DRMs emphasised that the primary concern of both divisions is to ensure that the transition is smooth and seamless, with minimum disruption to railway operations and services. It was agreed that all necessary preparatory and coordination measures will be taken well in advance so that train services and railway operations continue normally from Oct 1, when the jurisdictional changes come into effect.The two divisions also discussed matters relating to operational coordination, assets, records, control arrangements, staff and other associated issues arising from the jurisdictional change.With regard to staff working in the Mangaluru area, it was reiterated that staff will be given an option to remain with Southern Railway or opt to join South Western Railway, in accordance with the rules and procedures laid down by the Railway Board. The Railway Board’s directions provide for transfer of non-gazetted staff on an ‘as is where is’ basis, while permitting staff to exercise an option to stay with SR or switch to SWR; the prescribed procedure will be followed for other categories as applicable.A release stated that both sides expressed confidence that close coordination between Palakkad and Mysuru divisions will facilitate an orderly and seamless transition, while ensuring continuity of train operations and passenger services.
