Mangaluru: With the objective of quickly implementing the new development project for the Urwa Store Market, which has been pending for several years, the new chairman of the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (Muda), Santhosh Kumar Shetty, conducted a site inspection.During this visit, he reviewed the building design and necessary infrastructure for the new market, holding discussions with Muda commissioner Mohammed Nazeer and concerned officials to ensure the project’s effective implementation.Meanwhile, the public brought the need for a well-equipped market to the chairman’s attention, and appealed to expedite the project.Shetty said that Muda has decided to give impetus to the development of this 88 cent market area under the authority.“Since this comes under the purview of Muda, we have now taken up the earlier plan to build a well-equipped, modernised market here. As needed, we have devised a plan to develop a proper market combining both a fish market and commercial facilities that will benefit local fish vendors and traders. In the coming days, we are slightly modifying the previously prepared design to finalise it. We are striving to develop it in a way that avoids past issues in other markets, and serves the public effectively,” he said.Earlier, Shetty conducted a site visit and held discussions with the Muda commissioner and officials to review the current status, development works, and matters related to the public allotment and use of Muda sites in the Kavoor-Kunjathbail and Surathkal-Chelaru areas.He gathered information from officials regarding site development, infrastructure, and the necessary measures to be taken in the interest of the public.
