Vadodara: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against Padra police inspector V A Chaaran and his alleged accomplice Sajid Ali Saiyyad for accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. Saiyyad was caught red-handed near Akshar Chowk while accepting the money, while Chaaran is currently absconding.According to ACB officials, the complainant was involved in a dispute in Padra on April 9, following which he and another person were taken to the police station. It is alleged that Chaaran warned the complainant of serious consequences if the case took a “love jihad” angle and directed him to contact Saiyyad.Saiyyad allegedly demanded Rs 6 lakh to not pursue the case further, which was later negotiated down to Rs 2 lakh. Acting on instructions from Chaaran, Saiyyad repeatedly contacted the complainant to press for the payment.Unable to arrange the money, the complainant approached the Vadodara rural ACB, which laid a trap near a tea stall. Saiyyad was caught while accepting the bribe and allegedly informed Chaaran about receiving the amount before being apprehended.ACB officials said efforts are underway to trace Chaaran, who remains at large.
