NEW DELHI: Several passengers of two SpiceJet flights held a protest at Delhi airport after their flights to Dubai were delayed by several hours. One flight was delayed by nearly 30 hours, another departed after nearly a 19-hour delay.A third SpiceJet Delhi-Dubai flight was also rescheduled.SpiceJet flight SG-5111, scheduled to depart for Dubai at 7.45 am Monday, finally took off at 2 pm Tuesday, nearly 30 hours behind schedule. The flight was carrying 130 passengers.Another flight, SG-5105, was scheduled to leave Delhi airport for Dubai at 6.45 pm Monday, but it left Tuesday afternoon after a delay of nearly 19 hours. The flight had 160 passengers on board.A third flight, SG-9511, which was initially scheduled to depart from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 8.30 am Tuesday, was rescheduled for later in the evening.A video being widely shared on social media showed many passengers sitting in protest at Terminal 3.A SpiceJet spokesperson said, “SpiceJet flights SG 5111, SG 5105 and SG 9511, operating from Delhi to Dubai, were delayed due to operational reasons following the grounding of an aircraft. Alternative flights were arranged (for) to accommodate the affected passengers, and the airline made every effort to minimise the disruption. While SG 5111 and SG 5105 have already departed for Dubai, SG 9511 is scheduled to depart later this evening.“The spokesperson added that SpiceJet deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to the passengers.Delhi Airport wrote on X, “We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers. Delhi Airport teams have been coordinating closely with the airline and relevant stakeholders to support affected passengers.”It added that food and beverage and necessary assistance have been arranged for to help minimise the inconvenience.
