Patna: The online application process for admission to undergraduate (UG) Part-I courses under the four-year Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for the academic session 2026–30 concluded on Monday. More than one lakh candidates have applied for regular arts, science and commerce programmes offered by colleges in Patna and Nalanda districts under the Patliputra University (PPU) jurisdiction.PPU has around 1.25 lakh seats across its constituent and affiliated colleges, along with 16 newly established degree colleges in arts, science and commerce streams.According to PPU dean of students’ welfare (DSW) Rajeev Ranjan, history emerged as the most sought-after subject in the arts stream, attracting nearly 20,000 applications. In the science stream, zoology topped the preference chart with around 13,000 applications, reflecting growing interest in life sciences and allied fields.Among other popular subjects, political science received 9,666 applications, followed by geography (8,233) and Hindi (7,903). In the science faculty, physics drew 6,753 applications, while Urdu received 553 and Sanskrit 171 applications.The DSW said the admission process is being conducted entirely online to ensure transparency and convenience. After scrutiny of applications, the university will publish the first merit list on June 13, with admissions beginning from June 14. Selected candidates will have to complete admission formalities within the stipulated period.PPU registrar Abu Bakar said applicants will get an opportunity to rectify errors in their forms on June 9 and 10 before preparation of the merit list. He added that the four-year undergraduate programme continues to attract students from across the state, and the merit list will be prepared based on the candidates’ marks.
