Aizawl: Mizoram Police seized over 9 kg of methamphetamine and arrested five people from two locations in Aizawl and Champhai districts, a senior police officer said on Thursday.In the first operation early on Thursday, personnel from the Aizawl district special branch and the 34th Battalion of Assam Rifles intercepted a vehicle on the Muallungthu-Khumtung Road in southern Aizawl, H Ramthlengliana, the IGP and chief public relations officer of the state police, said.The team seized 3.615 kg of methamphetamine from Chhancheuliana, 46, of Noaotlah in Siaha district. A case was registered at Kulikawn police station under Sections 22(c) and 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, he said.In a separate operation on Tuesday night, Zokhawthar police intercepted a pickup vehicle between Melbuk and Mualkawi villages in Champhai district and seized 5.532 kg of methamphetamine from Lalthanga, 42, and Laldinfela, 40, both residents of Saitual Venglai.Lalchungnunga, 37, of Zokhawthar was subsequently arrested for his alleged involvement.The purported recipient of the consignment, Rafique Ali, 34, of Guwahati, was later traced and arrested in Kolasib with the assistance of the Kolasib district police.A case was registered at Zokhawthar police station under Sections 22(c), 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is under way.
