Srinagar, Oct 19: More than 97,000 students appeared in the annual regular Class 10 examinations conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) on Monday, with the Mathematics paper receiving largely positive feedback from students.

The examinations were held at 1,003 centres across the Kashmir Valley and the winter-zone areas of Jammu division.

According to JKBOSE officials, Kashmir division has 72,232 registered candidates, while 25,268 students are enrolled from the winter-zone areas of Jammu division. Of the total centres, 687 are located in Kashmir division and 316 in the winter-zone areas of Jammu division.

JKBOSE Chairman Ghulam Hassan Sheikh said examinations were being conducted across all 10 districts of Kashmir division and seven districts of Jammu division. A few candidates were also appearing in Leh and Kargil.

During his visit to examination centres, Sheikh said the Board had set up a dedicated centre at its office for eligible candidates with special needs. Such candidates are being provided 20 minutes of additional time, scribes based on their disabilities and a five-mark concession in the passing criteria.

“We try our best to facilitate them and to make their academic dreams come true,” he said.

The chairman said the Board had made advance preparations and consulted officers, joint secretaries and deputy secretaries to ensure proper arrangements and the smooth conduct of the examinations.

Meanwhile, students who appeared in the Mathematics examination described the paper as balanced and manageable, although some found it slightly lengthy.

Mariyam Jan of Ashutosh Army Goodwill School said the paper was neither too easy nor too difficult and suited students who had prepared well. She said she studied mathematics for around three hours daily alongside tuition.

Uzma Gilani, another Class 10 student, said she had been nervous before the examination but found the paper easier than expected. She advised students not to panic over social media rumours suggesting that the paper would be extremely difficult.

Another student said her late-night study sessions had helped her perform well, describing the paper as very easy. Danish Ahmad said he felt tense before receiving the question paper but found it fair and of average difficulty.

Students encouraged their peers to remain confident and consistent as the examination schedule continues.

The Class 10 examinations began on Monday and will conclude on November 18.
