Patna: More than 71,000 pending traffic and transport challans were settled across Bihar during a six-day special campaign from Sept 7 to 12, giving vehicle owners an opportunity to clear cases pending for months.A total of 71,126 challans were disposed of through the National Lok Adalat held across all districts. The settlements involved challan amounts totalling Rs8.21 crore.Transport secretary Raj Kumar said the initiative allowed a large number of vehicle owners to resolve their outstanding challans through the Lok Adalat. He said offenders were also offered relief of up to 50% on the challan amount in eligible cases. The facility covered challans pending for more than 90 days.Transport commissioner Arif Ahsan said the initiative helped reduce the backlog of pending challans while also reinforcing the importance of following traffic regulations.Patna recorded the highest number of traffic challans settled during the campaign, with 21,237 cases disposed of. Muzaffarpur followed with 13,803 settlements and Bhagalpur with 12,239.Among other districts, 2,160 traffic challans were settled in Motihari, 1,441 in Nalanda, 1,342 in Katihar and 1,221 in Begusarai.In transport-related cases, Motihari recorded 587 settlements, followed by Aurangabad with 325, Lakhisarai with 288, Nawada with 272 and Muzaffarpur with 266. Vaishali recorded 89 transport challans settled.
