Visakhapatnam: Over 50 students fell ill at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Kommadi, Visakhapatnam. School officials reported that one student had contracted malaria, while fogging carried out by GVMC staff to control mosquitoes caused discomfort to several others. Some students also experienced vomiting and dizziness after consuming packaged snacks. Eight were treated at the local urban primary health centre.

This situation drew the attention of Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasarao, who visited the school on Monday. During his visit, the MLA expressed concern over poor sanitation in the school. He interacted with recovering students and discussed the possible causes of their illness. The former HRD minister also inspected classrooms, toilets, the library, and laboratories, and joined students for lunch in the dining hall.

Rao, after seeing filth in the drain next to the kitchen and dining hall, asked how diseases do not occur under such conditions and directed GVMC staff to clean the drainage immediately. GVMC officials and local TDP, BJP, and Jana Sena leaders accompanied the MLA during the visit.
