Coimbatore: More than 3,000 police personnel in the district cast their votes through postal ballots on Friday.According to official data, a total of 3,084 police personnel and associated staff had applied for postal ballots. Majority of the applicants belonged to the city’s primary law enforcement wing. They included 2,317 personnel from the city police, 350 home guards, 135 retired police personnel on election duty, 53 personnel from the anti-terrorism squad, and 16 sleuths from the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption.Sources in the department said the applications were processed under two categories. Of the 3,084 applications, 2,973 were submitted under Form 12, while 111 were filed under Form 12D.“The primary objective is to ensure that every officer deployed for election security and field duty is given the opportunity to perform their democratic duty without hindrance,” an election official said.
