Ludhiana: Acting on a tip-off, the drugs control department conducted an inspection at a medicine firm at New Chander Nagar. During the inspection, the firm, Life Medicare, located at New Chander Nagar, was found stocking four varieties of allopathic medicines containing the salt Pregabalin. However, the firm failed to produce mandatory purchase records of these medicines as required under provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. In view of the violation, the medicines, valued at approximately Rs 23,408 were seized under relevant provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. During further checking of the premises, psychotropic drug Tramadol tablets 2,376 in total, were recovered. As Tramadol falls under the category of psychotropic substances, recovered tablets were handed over to Police Post Jagatpuri for necessary legal action. ASI Sukhwinder Singh, investigation officer from Jagatpuri police post, said an FIR was lodged against the accused, Rajeev Kumar of Haibowal.
