Coimbatore: More than 200 contract sanitary workers boycotted work at ESI hospital here on Tuesday, condemning the irregularities of the contract company. According to sources, about 10 suspended workers from Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) were redeployed at ESI hospital on the day.Condemning the act, sanitary workers at the hospital demanded that the contractors reemploy only the employees removed from ESI hospital and not from other centres.Prabhakaran, a member of the sanitary workers association, said, “If people from other places are deployed here, people working here will lose their job opportunities. Workers were suspended only for raising a red flag against the contract company about its irregularities. We demand that they be redeployed and not any outsiders.”The workers also sought immediate and proper disbursement of PF funds, as well as measures to address staff shortages to reduce their heavy workload. They accused the contract company of recurrent irregularities in wages.Prabhakaran said the PF deductions were not being intimated to the workers for the past six months. “Workers don’t receive any message of confirmation regarding PF deduction, while the same is deducted from their pay. We demand transparency in workers’ wages.”After a series of negotiations with the hospital management and representatives of the contract company, the workers resumed work by late morning.
