Hyderabad: Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) sleuths of the Hyderabad Customs department intercepted a passenger at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the early hours of April 7 and seized 13.2 kilos of hydroponic ganja worth Rs 4.6 crore from his checked-in baggage.The accused arrived from Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG-329. Acting on behavioural profiling, AIU officers examined his baggage and recovered 22 vacuum-sealed packets containing a green leafy substance. “The substance tested positive for hydroponic weed, a narcotic drug covered under the NDPS Act. The contraband was seized following due procedure,” said a Customs official.In a follow-up operation on April 8, Customs officials arrested another accused for arranging travel, other logistics and instructions for the peddler. The accused were remanded, and the case is under investigation.Furthermore, during the 2025-26 financial year, Hyderabad Customs sleuths seized 160 kilos of hydroponic weed and arrested 30 accused.
